26 series - Packet-switched multimedia codecs
Description
This page divides the codecs for packet-switched multimedia into four groups:
- The first group of specifications defines the codecs and data transport protocols that should be used by packet-switched conversational multimedia applications. Most of these applications are not themselves standardised, but 3GPP have recently introduced a standard for multimedia telephony over the IP multimedia subsystem.
- The second group defines the codecs, protocols and file formats used by the packet-switched streaming service, which delivers streaming media from a server to a mobile.
- The third group defines the codecs, protocols and media formats used by MMS, MBMS and the IP messaging & presence services.
- The final group contains a specification for dynamic & interactive multimedia scenes (DIMS), which are supported by three services: MMS, MBMS and PSS.
